Riley Meredith to Return for Third Consecutive Season with Somerset

Somerset County Cricket Club has confirmed the return of Australian fast bowler Riley Meredith for their 2026 Vitality Blast campaign. The 29-year-old pacer has been a key figure in Somerset’s T20 success, having delivered impressive performances in his two previous seasons with the club.

Meredith played a crucial role in Somerset’s journey to the 2025 Vitality Blast final, finishing as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 28 wickets in 14 matches. Although he missed Finals Day due to his recall for the Australian domestic season, his impact throughout the competition was undeniable. He was also instrumental in Somerset’s run to the final in 2024.

Excited for his third campaign with Somerset, Meredith expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining the team. “I’ve loved my time with Somerset, and it was great to contribute to this year’s success. The squad is fantastic, and I can’t wait to play again in front of the passionate fans at Taunton,” he said.

Somerset’s director of cricket, Andy Hurry, welcomed Meredith’s return, highlighting the bowler’s pace and aggression as vital assets for the team. “Riley was integral to our success this summer. His genuine speed and energy bring a unique dimension to our attack. Our supporters will be thrilled to see him back at the Cooper Associates County Ground as we aim to defend our title in 2026.”

Meredith joins a group of confirmed returnees, including South African all-rounder Migael Pretorius, teenage all-rounder Archie Vaughan, and experienced spinner Jack Leach. Pretorius, who recently signed a multi-format contract, impressed with 550 runs and 52 wickets across formats. Veteran Leach, who was overlooked for England’s Ashes tour, secured 52 County Championship wickets in 2025, while Vaughan has made significant contributions with both bat and ball since his debut.

With these key players re-signing, Somerset looks poised for another strong campaign ahead.
