In a standout performance at Radlett, Somerset brothers James and Thomas Rew combined for a commanding century partnership that propelled their team to a six-wicket victory over Middlesex in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. This impressive win marked a strong start to Somerset’s campaign.
James Rew, playing his third List A match alongside his brother, scored an unbeaten 106 off 90 balls, showcasing his composure and skill. His younger brother Thomas, fresh from appearances with the England Under-19s, impressed with an aggressive innings of 51 from 54 balls, featuring three fours and three sixes—his maiden senior half-century.
Despite Thomas’ dismissal when 58 runs remained, James remained steadfast, steering Somerset to victory with 15 balls to spare. Josh Thomas contributed a valuable 24 runs, helping to stabilize the innings following Thomas Rew’s departure.

Middlesex posted a competitive total of 289 for 7, thanks in part to Josh de Caires’ first List A half-century, scoring 71 off 86 balls. De Caires also shared a solid 63-run opening partnership with Joe Cracknell, who made 23. However, Middlesex’s innings faltered at crucial moments as wickets fell, allowing Somerset’s disciplined bowling attack to seize control.
Jake Ball was the leading wicket-taker for Somerset with figures of 3 for 43, despite a couple of dropped catches off his bowling. Jack Leach also bowled well, capturing 3 for 47. Somerset now look ahead to their next encounter against Durham on Friday.
