Weston-super-Mare’s high street is set to undergo a major transformation, with a series of Victorian storefronts receiving a “vast improvement” in a bid to revitalize the area. The North Somerset Council has submitted a planning application to refurbish several key buildings, with funding secured from the government’s Levelling Up Fund.
The project covers the refurbishment of several historic storefronts, including numbers 57, 67, 69, and 73, aiming to attract new businesses and increase foot traffic. Mark Canniford, responsible for placemaking and a local councillor, expressed his pleasure at the submission of the proposals, highlighting the positive impact this initiative could have on the town.
The work, which includes the replacement of alterations with modern, timber-based storefronts, is being carried out by Carter Jones, with the goal of completing the project by year-end, subject to planning approval. Additionally, energy efficiency improvements will be integrated to help new occupants manage premises costs.

The funding from the Levelling Up Fund will also contribute to various other projects in the town, such as the restoration of Birnbeck Pier, the transformation of the Tropicana into a large-capacity venue, the renovation of Grove Park, and enhancements to the marine lake.
