Revised Plans for 750 New Homes in Rural Somerset

Residents in East Somerset have a limited time to provide feedback on revised plans to introduce nearly 750 new homes in their local area. Mendip District Council has identified a total of 37 sites as potential locations for additional housing in the district in its Local Plan Part II. However, following a judicial review, five of these sites were removed. In response, Somerset Council has published a revised list of potential locations that could fill the housing allocation gap, with up to 777 new homes being considered. The public consultation is open until August 12, after which the proposals will be submitted for assessment by the Planning Inspectorate in late-September.

The remaining sites within the revised Local Plan Part II include developments in Midsomer Norton, Street, Chilcompton, Stratton-on-the-Fosse, Coleford, and Street, among others. The housing on these sites is expected to be delivered within the next five years, with most of them already having planning permission in place.

The public consultation on these proposed sites is open until August 12. To provide feedback on the proposals, visit www.somersetcouncil.citizenspace.com/planning/mendip-local-plan-part-ii-limited-update-reg-19.
