A public meeting is scheduled for next week to gather input from Bridgwater locals regarding revised plans for 750 homes in the area. The proposed development by Edward Ware (Bridgwater) Ltd. encompasses a mix of housing, a primary school, and a community facility, forming part of the East Bridgwater housing allocation within the Sedgemoor Local Plan.
In response to a viability assessment, the developer has submitted amended proposals for the site, questioning the feasibility of delivering over 200 affordable homes within the project. As part of the approval process, a special planning meeting organized by Bridgwater Without Parish Council will allow residents to express their views on the revised plans ahead of the final decision by Somerset Council later in the year.
The development site lies within the East Bridgwater allocation, and if approved, the new homes will be delivered in three phases from north to south. A viability assessment suggests that the original requirement for 225 affordable properties may not be economically viable, potentially leading to a reduced number of affordable homes or none at all.

The meeting will address the infrastructure and facilities linked to the development, including roadways, a primary school, and a community facility aimed at creating a sustainable, accessible, and attractive development specific to the area. Following the meeting, a final decision is anticipated to be made in the autumn, based on the parish council’s recommendation and subsequent review by Somerset Council’s planning committee.
The meeting is set to take place at the Morganians Rugby Club on Chedzoy Lane on Thursday, April 24 at 7:15pm.
