A new housing proposal has been submitted for the Nurseries site in Somerset, adjacent to a former mill and the BMI site in Castle Cary. Despite having planning permission for 24 homes since 2008, none have been built on the site. The new owner, Biophilic Ltd., has now submitted revised plans for the same number of homes, along with adjusted access arrangements.
Originally, the homes were meant to be accessed from Cumnock Road, sharing the access road with the nearby BMI development. The updated plans propose extending Olympic Drive to serve as the primary access point, while maintaining pedestrian access to Cumnock Road and Upper High Street.
The decision to revise the plans came after discussions between Somerset Council and the developer in 2022, both acknowledging the need to progress the long-abandoned site. Improved landscaping, high-quality architecture, and a strong community focus are emphasized in the new proposal, with the goal to set an example for future developments.

The council is expected to review and decide on the revised proposals by the summer, signaling potential progress for the area’s housing situation. Other pending decisions include major housing developments at Station Green and Persimmon Homes' plans for a primary school and residential units on Station Road.
