Residents of Somerset Brace for More Rain and Persistent Flooding

Somerset has been inundated by heavy rain, causing widespread flooding across the region. With consecutive days of downpours, residents have been prompted to take precautions against the rising water levels that have affected roads and properties.

Fire departments have been actively involved in rescue operations for individuals stranded in flooded areas. Recently, three men were rescued from their vehicles in Chard and Taunton as a result of the continuous rainfall.

Flood warnings are still in effect for Somerset, urging locals to take immediate action due to the anticipated flooding. At one point, a section of the M5 was closed after being submerged in rainwater.

The Met Office has forecasted additional rainfall in Somerset, potentially exacerbating the flooding in certain areas later in the evening.

In Chard, firefighters successfully rescued two men from a flooded road just before noon. Similarly, in Taunton, a man was rescued from his vehicle stuck in flood water, both situations concluding with the individuals being safely relocated to dry land.

While some areas are expected to experience sunshine, the evening is anticipated to bring more showers. The Met Office advises of the likelihood for cloud build-up and intermittent rain throughout the night, with diminishing winds and cooler temperatures.
