Renowned British actor James Purefoy, widely recognized for his outstanding performances in Rome, The Following, and Fisherman’s Friends, has been appointed as the Patron of the Wellington Film Festival. This announcement signifies a significant milestone for the festival, underlining its increasing prominence.
James has made substantial contributions to theatre, television, and film. Throughout his career, he has brought to life intricate and compelling characters, often opting for roles that starkly contrast with his previous portrayals. A native of Taunton, with upbringing in Yeovil and Martock, he takes pride in his heritage and frequently incorporates the regional accent into his roles. As the new festival Patron, he will partake in a special Q & A session and screening, with specific details yet to be disclosed.
Expressing his sentiments, James stated, “It is a privilege to join the Wellington Film Festival as its Patron. I eagerly anticipate lending support to the exceptional efforts of those involved in presenting a diverse and engaging film program to the people of Wellington.”

The Wellington Film Festival was established by the Wellington Town Council Working Group and is funded by the Wellington Town Council, with operational coordination by the local charity Somerset Film. The festival is scheduled to take place from October 3rd to 5th, featuring a lineup of films, Director Q & A sessions, a short film making competition, outdoor projections, and forthcoming special events.
