An AI-generated image depicting a Reform-themed float at the Weston-super-Mare Carnival has unexpectedly caused chaos for the event’s organisers. Shared jokingly by the party’s local branch on Facebook, the post triggered a surge of messages demanding clarification, forcing the carnival team to address the confusion publicly.
The image showed a blue and white float adorned with Reform party branding, complete with two ‘members’ waving from its top. Accompanying the post was a playful caption: “Happy Carnival Day, Weston! We LOVE a bit of culture. If you see our float today, give us a wave,” paired with a winking emoji.
Although the party quickly clarified in the comments that the image was simply meant in jest and that no float was actually entered, the carnival organisers found themselves overwhelmed with inquiries and complaints. A spokesperson for Weston-super-Mare Carnival stated, “Hi all, we are being overloaded with messages about an entry from a political party. That may well be a ‘fun’ post or tongue in cheek from them; however, it’s causing mayhem in our messaging and there’s just me at the end of it all, please stop messaging (especially the nasty ones!). Just to be clear there are NO and I’ll repeat for clarity NO, nada, nil, political party entries in our parade of any colour, nor will there ever be.”

The annual Weston-super-Mare Carnival, a beloved highlight of the town’s calendar, took place this evening, November 7, with the parade starting promptly at 7 pm. This year’s procession featured a new route designed to enhance safety and enjoyment, following input from emergency services, local authorities, and the community. Due to restrictions preventing the use of Marine Parade for dispersal, the organisers adapted the route to better accommodate modern logistical demands and prevent delays caused by overcrowding.
The event showcased illuminated floats, marching bands, fancy dress participants, and entertainers parading through the streets. Attendees were encouraged to support the festivities generously by donating via collection buckets or online contributions.
