An AI-generated image of a Reform-themed float at the Weston-super-Mare Carnival has stirred considerable confusion and complaints after being shared by the party’s local branch on social media. The post, intended as a lighthearted joke, triggered an overwhelming response that forced organisers to issue a clear statement addressing the situation.
The image, posted on Facebook by the town’s Reform group ahead of the carnival on November 7, depicted a blue and white float emblazoned with the party’s branding, featuring two ‘members’ waving atop the float. Accompanying the image was the playful caption: “Happy Carnival Day, Weston! We LOVE a bit of culture. If you see our float today, give us a wave 😉.”
Despite clarifications from the Reform group in the comments explaining that the float was purely fictional and not participating in the event, many attendees and locals flooded the carnival’s message inbox, prompting organisers to intervene. A spokesperson for Weston-super-Mare Carnival said, “We are receiving an overwhelming number of messages about a political party entry. While it might have been meant as a lighthearted post, it has caused mayhem, especially as there is only one person managing these messages. Please, stop messaging, including the unpleasant ones.”

To clear any doubt, organisers reiterated: “There are absolutely NO political party entries of any kind in our parade, nor will there ever be.”
The Weston-super-Mare Carnival, a beloved annual event on the seaside town’s calendar, took place on the evening of November 7, with the parade starting at 7pm. For 2025, organisers announced a new route aimed at improving safety and flow, following thorough consultations with emergency services, local authorities, and community stakeholders. The parade features illuminated floats, marching bands, costumed walkers, and entertainers, all entertaining the crowds while encouraging generous donations to support the event.
