Rediscovering Weston-super-Mare: A Seaside Gem

The decline of British seaside resorts has been evident in the abandoned coastline, with once opulent and grand tourist attractions now struggling to reclaim their former glory.

The rise of affordable flights to destinations like Spain and Greece led to a drain in resources for UK seaside towns, alongside environmental challenges such as sewage discharge and rising costs. Weston-super-Mare, a town in Somerset, was deemed one of the ‘worst’ UK seaside towns, scoring low on ratings.

Despite its struggling reputation, my recent visit to Weston-super-Mare revealed a town that has its own undeniable allure. With its brown-sea beach, the town still draws in visitors eager for fish and chips, arcade amusements, and a laid-back seaside experience.

The town’s unpretentious authenticity, vibrant atmosphere, and lively amusements won me over, offering a quintessential seaside experience. Weston-super-Mare exudes an infectious energy, proud of its identity and unapologetically charming.

The town has ambitious plans for further improvements, including investments in historic piers and event venues, along with a booming housing market and growing inward investment, indicating a bright future for this once-criticized resort.
