Redevelopment Plans Revealed for Historic Bath Press Site

A developer is seeking feedback on the latest redevelopment plans for the historic Bath Press site in Bath. The site, which was previously occupied by the Pitman Press printing works, has been empty since 2007 and was demolished ten years later for redevelopment.

Construction has commenced on new homes at the eastern end of the former Bath Press site. Meanwhile, City & Country is organizing a “masterplan community consultation event” for the western section of the scheme.

Originally a Phonetic Institute dating back to 1889, the former Pitman’s Press complex is set to have its classical and art deco stone façade restored and preserved by City & Country. The façade is listed on Bath and North East Somerset Council’s ‘local list’, signifying its local heritage significance.

The public is being invited to engage with the developer and the design team, which includes Bath-based architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, to learn about the progress on the eastern portion of the 5.3-acre site and to provide feedback on the plans for the western end. Detailed plans for the western portion will be revealed on April 23 during the consultation event.

Simon Vernon-Harcourt, design & planning director at City & Country, expressed enthusiasm about presenting the next phase of plans for the historic Bath Press site and seeks to involve the community in the development process.

The consultation will be open to all members of the public and will take place between 4.30-8pm on Wednesday, April 23 at Oldfield Park Infant School on Dorset Close, Bath.
