A devastating crash on the A370 near Weston-super-Mare has claimed the life of 18-year-old motorcyclist Alfie Gray. The incident occurred in September 2024 when Kasper Stankiewicz, a 19-year-old driver from Congresbury, was found guilty of causing Gray’s death through reckless driving.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, Alfie Gray was riding his motorbike home from work near Puxton Park on the evening of September 10, 2024. At the same time, Stankiewicz was travelling in the opposite direction when he encountered another vehicle ahead of him.
In an attempt to overtake, Stankiewicz moved onto the wrong side of the road, colliding with Gray’s motorbike. The impact was fatal; Gray died from his injuries.

Following a three-day trial at Bristol Crown Court, the jury unanimously convicted Stankiewicz of causing death by dangerous driving. He was subsequently released on bail pending sentencing, which is scheduled for July 9 at the same court. A temporary driving ban has been imposed until the sentencing hearing.
Designated Investigation Officer Zoe Wilkinson expressed her condolences, emphasizing the profound loss felt by Alfie’s family. She praised their strength and dignity throughout the investigation and trial. The defense argued that Stankiewicz’s actions did not constitute dangerous driving but rather driving without due care and attention. However, the jury rejected this defense, holding Stankiewicz accountable for his reckless behavior that tragically ended a promising young life.
