Shaun Bundy, 41, of Pookfield Close, Frome, has been sentenced to eight years in prison following a retrial that found him guilty of raping a woman in her own home. Bundy initially denied the crime, forcing the victim to relive the trauma throughout a lengthy legal process spanning more than two years.
The incident occurred when Bundy visited the victim’s home to collect tools. After loading them into his vehicle, he asked for a glass of water, which the victim provided. Once inside, Bundy sexually assaulted her and instructed her not to report the assault. Despite his threats, the victim courageously contacted the police shortly afterward.
Bundy was arrested the same day but maintained his innocence, denying any sexual activity during police interviews. However, forensic exams revealed DNA evidence linking him to the crime. Although the first trial ended with a hung jury, the subsequent retrial resulted in a conviction.

At Winchester Crown Court on September 4, Bundy was sentenced to eight years imprisonment with an additional five years on licence. He must also register as a sex offender indefinitely.
Detective Sergeant Toni Nugent of South CID praised the victim’s courage, stating, “She showed incredible bravery throughout this process, coming forward and enduring two trials despite the forensic evidence.” Nugent also highlighted the vital support provided by the Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA), who offers guidance and impartial information to victims of sexual violence.
After a prolonged judicial process, the victim’s resilience has ensured that Bundy is brought to justice and will remain under supervision for life.
