Ranjuo Tomblin, an artistic swimmer and sporting scholar from the University of Bath, has established himself as a quadruple continental champion following an exceptional performance at the Paris 2026 European Aquatics Championships.
Tomblin, a Sports Performance student and recipient of the Trendell Sporting Scholarship, entered the championships with strong momentum after amassing 17 medals - including 12 gold - on the 2026 Artistic Swimming World Cup circuit.
He successfully defended his titles in the Men’s Solo events, achieving impressive scores of 249.3951 in the Technical routine and 258.9188 in the Free final.

Furthermore, Tomblin partnered with Izzy Thorpe to secure Great Britain’s first-ever Mixed Duet Free European title, narrowly edging out Spain by 0.2650 points with a score of 258.2383. The duo then triumphed in the Mixed Duet Technical event with a score of 229.6783, overcoming Italy to claim gold.
Reflecting on his partnership with Thorpe, Tomblin expressed his gratitude:
“I am really grateful to have this opportunity and to swim with Izzy, she’s the best duet partner ever. It’s been an amazing experience swimming with Izzy. When I first partnered with her I just didn’t want to disappoint her but now we have this amazing partnership and it has just been the best time.”
On the return to the Olympic Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis, where she made history for Team GB at Paris 2024, Kate Shortman-who graduated from the University of Bath this summer-secured a bronze medal alongside Thorpe in the Duet Technical event, scoring 297.9108. Shortman, a Bill Whiteley Sporting Scholar, has focused on her studies in International Management and Modern Languages (French), including a placement year in Paris.
Additionally, Robyn Swatman, another recent Sports Performance graduate, partnered Eve Young in the Duet Free event, finishing in 10th place with a score of 245.0216.
This remarkable showing from the University of Bath’s artistic swimmers highlights their growing prominence on the continental stage and sets an optimistic tone ahead of their preparations for future competitions, including the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
