Queen’s College Joins Global Elite as High Performance Learning World Class School

Queen’s College in Somerset has been honoured with the distinguished High Performance Learning (HPL) World Class School status, placing it among a select group of institutions worldwide renowned for exceptional educational standards.

This prestigious recognition follows an intensive two-year process, during which Queen’s College seamlessly integrated the HPL framework into all aspects of school life—encompassing lessons, assemblies, extracurricular clubs, and enrichment activities.

At the heart of High Performance Learning is the principle that high achievement is attainable by all students through the right support and environment. The HPL model challenges the traditional belief that ability is fixed, instead promoting critical thinking, adaptability, and lifelong learning—essential skills in today’s fast-evolving, technology-driven world.

Queen’s College’s successful implementation was driven by dedicated student and staff “drive teams,” who played a pivotal role in embedding the HPL approach throughout the school community.

Steve Green, Head of Senior School and leader of the HPL initiative, stated: “This award is a proud milestone for the entire school. It has been a true team effort, and I’m immensely grateful to everyone involved, especially our drive teams who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. We are excited to build on this foundation and ensure HPL remains central to our mission.”

External assessor Stephen Gray, Headteacher at Calday Grange Grammar School, praised Queen’s College’s commitment: “Spending time at this vibrant, nurturing school was a genuine pleasure. The positive atmosphere and strong community spirit were evident everywhere. I was highly impressed by the quality of practice and the thoughtful planning and dedication to excellence. The entire assessment process was smooth, reflecting the school’s professionalism.”
