Proposed Expansion of Coleford Village with 75 New Homes near Mendip Hills

The village of Coleford, positioned near the Mendip Hills, is in line for a significant expansion if plans for 75 new homes are given the go-ahead. Following the approval of Gladman Developments' plans for 63 homes on the eastern side of Anchor Road, Rainier Developments Ltd. has proposed an additional 75 homes on the opposite side. The proposed site, designed to offer connectivity, character, and community, intends to complement the existing village setting.

If approved, the development will include public open space, attenuation ponds to prevent flooding, and 23 affordable homes, meeting the council’s affordable housing target. However, concerns have been raised over the impact on local health infrastructure, prompting a request for financial contributions to expand the local doctors’ surgery to accommodate the expected increase in patients.

The proposal is under review as part of the ongoing Mendip Local Plan Part II, and a decision is expected later in the year. Public feedback on the plan can be submitted at the Somerset Council’s website.
