Prestigious Bath Hotel Introduces Exquisite Tasting Menu with New Head Chef

Bath Spa Hotel, one of the city’s most esteemed five-star establishments, has welcomed acclaimed chef Alex Manger as the new head chef of its celebrated Vellore Restaurant. With over 12 years of experience in luxury hospitality, Alex is now leading a team of nine chefs to craft a distinctive menu that gracefully merges classic English cuisine with contemporary culinary creativity.

Alex’s impressive journey began at London’s prestigious Park Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge, followed by senior chef roles at several Macdonald Hotels properties, including The Compleat Angler in Marlow and The Bear in Woodstock. Most recently, he was head chef at the renowned Summer Lodge Country House Hotel in Dorset.

At Bath Spa Hotel, Alex has launched a sophisticated new menu presented both à la carte and as a refined five-course tasting experience. The menu celebrates the best of English flavours while showcasing innovative techniques and modern presentation—earning the restaurant two AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence just last October.

Alex shared his vision: “Bath Spa Hotel’s dedication to outstanding quality is unrivalled. My goal is to establish the Vellore Restaurant as the ultimate destination for exceptional food and service in Bath. I am excited to collaborate with the talented team to elevate our guests’ dining experience even further.”

Regional General Manager Raj Chakraborty echoed this enthusiasm: “Alex’s passion and expertise are tremendous assets. His creativity and leadership will play a vital role in enhancing the memorable culinary offerings we provide to our guests.”

The Vellore Restaurant occupies the beautifully restored grand ballroom of the original house and offers elegant seating for up to 80 guests indoors, complemented by a charming outdoor terrace overlooking the hotel’s seven-acre gardens. Open daily for evening dining, the restaurant serves both à la carte and tasting menus that include refined touches such as canapés and petit fours. Guests can also enjoy traditional afternoon tea in the hotel’s drawing room and pre-dinner drinks in the sophisticated Colonnade Bar.
