Poundland is on a rapid expansion drive in Somerset, taking over former M&Co and Wilko sites and planning to open four new stores in a two-week period before Christmas. The retailer has confirmed the opening dates for these new stores, with the first two in Portishead and Crewkerne set to open on November 25. Following them, the Radstock store will open on December 2, and a week later, the Wells store will welcome customers.
The expansion in Somerset is part of Poundland’s broader plan to open 86 new stores across the country within three months, demonstrating a significant commitment to growth and investment in the retail sector.
Austin Cooke, Poundland’s managing director, expressed excitement about the rapid expansion, emphasizing the introduction of new offerings like clothing, chilled, and frozen food. He also praised the monumental effort of the Poundland teams in successfully opening numerous stores in a short timeframe, acknowledging their contribution to supporting jobs and revitalizing high streets.
