Potential Snowfall Alert for Somerset

Forecasters at WXCharts are predicting significant snowfall for Somerset towards the end of February, with as much as 10 centimetres expected to fall in a single hour. The weather map for Wednesday, February 28, shows a large purple patch indicating potential snow coverage across areas including south Wales, Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire.

The Met Office has not confirmed the forecast but suggests that the collision of cold and warm air masses could lead to snowfall. Additionally, winds from the north and east towards the end of the month may result in colder and drier conditions.

The Met Office has stated, “During late February and early March, there is a slightly higher than normal likelihood of northerly or easterly winds occurring, which would increase the chance of colder and drier than average conditions.”

According to the BBC’s long-range forecast for the period from February 26 to March 10, a pattern of low pressure systems closer to southern UK and high pressure pressing down from the north may cause drier and chillier periods, with potential snow risks at the boundary between colder and milder air masses.

The overall forecast indicates a mostly cloudy day with outbreaks of rain on Monday, February 26, turning lighter and more patchy by evening, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 12°C. Overnight, intermittent heavy downpours are expected, while Tuesday is likely to be cloudy with persistent rain and some heavy bursts, accompanied by mild and breezy conditions.

Forecasts for the following days suggest changeable weather with periods of heavy rain or showers, potentially drier conditions on Friday, and relatively mild temperatures throughout the period.
