‘Positive Environment’ and Lifelong Learning Shine at Portishead Primary School

Portishead Primary School has received commendation from Ofsted inspectors following a recent monitoring visit that confirmed the school continues to uphold its high educational standards.

The ungraded inspection in March affirmed the school’s retention of its ‘good’ rating from the full inspection conducted in June 2019. Inspectors noted that the school has “taken effective action to maintain the standards.”

The report highlights several strengths, emphasizing that “pupils are happy” and describing the school as “a very positive place that embodies the school’s ethos of creating lifelong learners.” Pupils were found to “feel safe and achieve well in reading, writing, and mathematics.”

Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) was recognized as expert and effective, with the school fulfilling its commitments to these pupils commendably.

Inspectors also praised the strong relationships between staff, pupils, and parents. They affirmed that “the school supports pupils, including the most vulnerable, to achieve their potential” and that there are “strong relationships with parents who are positive about the school and what it does.”

The report further celebrated the diverse range of extracurricular and pastoral support available, such as lunchtime groups, clubs, and enrichment activities that enhance pupils’ knowledge and understanding of the world beyond the classroom.

Headteacher Lucy Sargent said, “Portishead Primary School is a wonderful school with a truly special community. I’m thrilled that Ofsted recognizes our ongoing commitment to providing a welcoming and productive learning environment. I’m extremely proud of our staff, pupils, and their families for making our school such a vibrant place.”

Dr Gary Lewis, Chief Executive of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership, added, “This report reflects the dedication, passion, and hard work of everyone involved in the school. As a founding member of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership since 2016, Portishead Primary continues to be a shining example for our Trust and the wider community.”
