The beloved Exmoor Explorer bus service is set to return this summer, reconnecting Devon and Somerset with its iconic routes across Exmoor National Park. Formerly known as the Exmoor Coaster, the service will resume operations from Sunday, May 24, just before the Spring Bank Holiday.
Offering a scenic and convenient way to explore the region, the double-decker buses run between Blue Anchor and Ilfracombe, passing through key stops including Dunster, Minehead, Porlock, Lynmouth, and Combe Martin. During May and June, the buses have closed roofs, transitioning to open-top vehicles for the peak summer months of July and August to enhance the sightseeing experience.
This year, Stagecoach South West, the chosen operator, has addressed previous challenges with low-hanging tree branches that reduced the open-top service in 2025. Working closely with Somerset and Devon County Councils, the route has been cleared for smooth operations in 2026.

The Exmoor Explorer route will be split between two contracts: one covering the Ilfracombe to Lynton section under Devon County Council, and another covering the remainder within Somerset. Chris Comer, Stagecoach’s commercial manager, expressed enthusiasm for restarting services from their North Devon base.
Passengers can enjoy capped fares of £3 per single journey, regardless of distance, thanks to the government’s bus fare cap. The service is also dog-friendly and accepts English national concessionary travel passes.
