Police Update Released Following Fatal Incident on A38

Avon and Somerset Police have provided an update following the tragic death of a man on the A38 in Somerset during the early hours of Friday, January 30. Emergency services responded to a call at approximately 12:10 AM on Bridgwater Road in Winscombe, located between Fox Lane and Fullers Lane.

The deceased, a man in his mid-fifties, was confirmed dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. Initially, police stated that the circumstances surrounding the man’s injuries were unclear, and they had not ruled out the possibility of a road traffic collision.

Further developments revealed that a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving. He has since been released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the time frame between 11:45 PM on Thursday, January 29, and 12:20 AM on Friday, January 30, to come forward. They are particularly interested in hearing from any drivers who were in the area or noticed anything suspicious before, during, or after the incident.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “We have launched a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances of this tragic event.
