This afternoon, armed police officers responded to a concerning incident on Rosebery Avenue in Yeovil, Somerset. Around 1:51 pm on Monday, March 23, officers were called after a report of a man carrying what appeared to be a handgun.
The situation escalated near Monmouth Road, where an officer attempted to engage with the individual, leading to a firearm being discharged by police. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
A man in his 30s was arrested inside a nearby flat on suspicion of possessing a firearm. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that a firearm was recovered inside the property.
Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Joe Piscina addressed community concerns, emphasizing that the situation was resolved safely. He highlighted the rigorous training armed officers undergo and assured that the discharge of a firearm is an extremely rare and serious action.
