A police officer discharged a firearm as part of a response to a reported incident in Yeovil, Somerset, on Monday, March 23. Around 1:51 pm, police, including armed units, were called to Rosebery Avenue after reports of a man carrying what was believed to be a handgun.
Shortly afterward, officers engaged with a man on Monmouth Road, during which a police officer fired their weapon. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported following the incident.
A man in his 30s was arrested inside a nearby flat on suspicion of firearm possession. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that a firearm was located inside the property. The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Joe Piscina addressed community concerns, stating, “This incident has been safely resolved without injury. Our armed officers are highly trained and incidents requiring firearm discharge are exceptionally rare and treated with utmost seriousness.”
