Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed they are not currently conducting an active investigation into historic child abuse allegations at Kingswood School in Bath.
The situation came to light after the independent boarding school sent a letter to former pupils, which was reported by SomersetLive. In the letter, Headteacher Andrew Gordon-Brown expressed “deep sorrow” following disclosures from a former student regarding allegations of abuse at the school during the 1990s.
The letter conveyed the school’s acknowledgment of the enduring trauma caused by childhood abuse and reiterated its commitment to supporting those affected. Andrew Gordon-Brown emphasized that Kingswood continues to prioritize the pastoral care and safeguarding of all its students.

A police spokesperson stated that while Avon and Somerset Police are aware of the school’s correspondence, there is currently no live investigation related to these allegations. The spokesperson assured that any new, relevant disclosures would prompt a full investigation by officers trained to support survivors of abuse.
Highlighting Kingswood’s commitment to student welfare, the headteacher noted the school’s adherence to safeguarding standards as monitored by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). He acknowledged that while the prevailing atmosphere at the school promotes kindness and compassion, past pupils’ experiences may have differed, a matter the school deeply regrets.
Kingswood School has invited former students to come forward with their experiences or new information related to these allegations, reinforcing their commitment to listen and provide support.
