A dramatic police chase on the A38 in Somerset ended in a collision involving a marked Avon and Somerset Police car and an uninvolved civilian vehicle. The incident occurred between Rooksbridge and Axbridge on the evening of Thursday, May 21.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, officers spotted a vehicle connected to a wanted individual at approximately 7:25 pm. When the driver refused to stop, the police initiated a pursuit. Just three minutes later, at 7:28 pm, the police car collided with another vehicle carrying two members of the public.
Emergency services promptly attended the scene. Both civilians received treatment from paramedics onsite, with one person subsequently transported to the hospital for injury assessment. Fortunately, the injuries were determined not to be life-threatening or life-altering. The police officers involved in the collision remained on duty.

The crash also resulted in damage to a gas pipe near the roadside. Utility workers were called to secure the compromised infrastructure and ensure public safety. Due to the collision and recovery efforts, the A38 remained closed at its intersections with the A371, Old Coach Road, and Cross Lane.
The suspect vehicle involved in the pursuit fled the scene but was later intercepted by police. One arrest was made in connection with the incident.
Avon and Somerset Police expressed gratitude for the cooperation of emergency services and the public while the A38 closures remain in effect during ongoing recovery operations.
