A police chase on Somerset’s A38 took a dangerous turn when a marked Avon and Somerset Police car crashed into an unrelated vehicle carrying two people. The incident occurred between Rooksbridge and Axbridge on the evening of Thursday, May 21.
At approximately 7:25 pm, officers spotted a vehicle connected to a wanted person. When the driver failed to stop, a pursuit ensued. Just three minutes later, at 7:28 pm, the police car collided with another vehicle unrelated to the chase.
Paramedics treated the two occupants of the other vehicle at the scene. One patient was taken to hospital for evaluation, but injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. Police officers involved in the collision remained on duty.

The collision also resulted in damage to a nearby gas pipe. Utility crews promptly arrived to secure the site. As a consequence, the A38 was closed between the junctions with the A371, Old Coach Road, and Cross Lane while emergency teams cleared the scene and recovered the vehicles.
Meanwhile, the vehicle being pursued fled the scene but was later stopped. One individual was arrested in connection with the chase.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the ongoing road closures as they continue to manage the aftermath of the incident.
