Chard Reservoir, a renowned nature reserve in the UK, is set to undergo exciting developments to enhance its facilities and accessibility. The current limited amenities, including only one compost toilet situated away from key areas, has prompted the Chard Reservoir Volunteer Group to seek community support for necessary enhancements. The group has secured a grant and is inviting local residents to participate in a public meeting on May 21 to discuss the proposed improvements.
With increased public engagement and educational sessions in recent years, the lack of facilities has become a significant challenge for both visitors and school/community groups. The Volunteer Group aims to address this issue by involving the community in fundraising initiatives to support their goals of bettering the site’s amenities. Notably, they have already received a grant to create a mobile woodland classroom and support environmental activities for local children, emphasizing the importance of environmental education and sustainability.
The meeting, scheduled for May 21 at the Boden Centre, will provide an opportunity for residents to understand the vision for the nature reserve and how they can contribute to its enhancement. Concurrently, essential improvements to the reservoir’s dam will be carried out from April 28 to July 11, necessitating the closure of Chaffcombe Lane. However, pedestrian access to the reservoir will remain available throughout this period.
