Plans to Rebuild Industrial Units Destroyed in Major Somerset Fire

Industrial units at Haydon Industrial Estate near Radstock, Somerset, destroyed in a significant fire last year, are set to be rebuilt. The fire, which occurred in March 2025, sent thick plumes of smoke visible for miles. Firefighters from Avon Fire and Rescue Service and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service worked tirelessly, employing 24 breathing apparatuses to contain the blaze.

Fortunately, all personnel on-site were safely evacuated, with only one individual requiring hospital treatment. The fire destroyed two key industrial units: one housing a workshop specializing in spray painting articulated lorry cabs, and another operating as an MOT centre. Notably, the spray painting business has since resumed operations in Somerton.

A year later, detailed plans have been submitted to Bath and North East Somerset Council to rebuild units 8 and 8a “like-for-like.” The applications emphasize replicating the original footprint, scale, height, and appearance of the destroyed buildings. The proposals aim to restore the established industrial estate aesthetics without introducing significant changes.
