Plans Submitted for New Multi-Million-Pound Lidl Store in Midsomer Norton

Lidl is planning to open a new, state-of-the-art supermarket in Midsomer Norton, with proposals recently submitted to Bath and North East Somerset Council. The new store would be located off Radstock Road, replacing the current Lidl branch on the High Street.

The proposed site includes 115 customer parking spaces, featuring six accessible bays, nine spaces reserved for parents and children, two electric vehicle charging points, and dedicated cycle parking. Lidl also anticipates the project will create new job opportunities in the community.

Glen Stidever, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, said, “After nearly 30 years serving Midsomer Norton, we want to offer residents more—more of Lidl’s great value products and easier access to their weekly shop. We appreciate the strong support we’ve already received and encourage local residents to continue sharing their views with the council.”

Earlier this summer, Lidl conducted a public consultation where 80% of participants expressed support for the relocation. One respondent remarked that a new supermarket was “a long time coming.” However, the exact number of respondents was not disclosed.

Lidl explained that upgrading the existing High Street store was not feasible due to limited parking and other constraints. If the new store wins council approval, the current High Street location will be put up for sale, either for redevelopment or reoccupation.

Residents are now invited to submit their feedback to the Bath and North East Somerset Council’s planning department regarding the Lidl relocation plans.
