Proposals have been unveiled for a development in Woolavington that includes a primary school, local center, play areas, and 1,700 homes. Persimmon Homes Severn Valley is seeking land allocation for the project, emphasizing its potential to drive sustainable economic growth and alleviate the acute housing demand in the area. The envisioned site, situated west of the town in Somerset, is positioned opposite the 616-acre Gravity Smart Campus, which is anticipated to generate over 7,500 jobs and support various dynamic uses such as rail, health, sports, and social facilities.
The proposed development by Persimmon Homes aims to infuse substantial investment in section 106, Community Infrastructure Levy contributions, and new council tax receipts. Additionally, it is expected to create hundreds of jobs during the construction phase and approximately 200 positions upon operationalization. The development plan outlines the construction of 1,400 new homes, a primary school, mixed-use local center and mobility hub, football pitches, play areas, and active travel routes. Furthermore, it includes designated land for educational institutions, public open space, woodland, and hedgerows. A portion of the homes will be allocated to a local housing association to aid in reducing the significant housing waiting list in Somerset.
Managing Director of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, Paul Moody, expressed that the Woolavington West development presents an opportunity to deliver a sustainable and high-quality housing scheme, aligning with the local housing requirements and the broader social, economic, and environmental goals for the area. He emphasized the complementary nature of the development to the envisioned plans at the Gravity Smart Campus, highlighting the prioritization of community facilities and amenities to leave a positive impact in the local area.

The proposed development aims to promote sustainable transport with a network of routes and connections that encourage walking, cycling, and the use of public transportation to the campus.
