Plans Proposed for New Multi-Million-Pound Lidl Store in Midsomer Norton

Lidl has submitted plans to Bath and North East Somerset Council to open a new multi-million-pound supermarket in Midsomer Norton, relocating from their current High Street branch to a new site off Radstock Road.

The proposed store will feature 115 customer parking spaces, including six designated for disabled users, nine for parents with children, two electric vehicle charging points, and cycle parking facilities. Lidl also highlights the prospect of creating new local jobs through this development.

Glen Stidever, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, said, “After serving the Midsomer Norton community for nearly 30 years, we want to offer residents greater access to Lidl’s value products and make their shopping experience more convenient. We appreciate all the support we’ve received so far and encourage more residents to share their views with the council.”

Earlier this summer, Lidl conducted a public consultation, with 80% of participants expressing approval of the plans. One resident described the new store as a “long time coming.” Although Lidl has not disclosed the number of respondents, the positive feedback reflects strong community interest.

The retailer considered refurbishing the existing High Street store but found the current car park size and other constraints unsuitable for expansion. Should the relocation be approved, the High Street property would be available for sale or redevelopment.

Residents are encouraged to submit their feedback to the council’s planning department as the application moves forward.
