The Somerset Council’s planning committee south has approved the construction of up to 34 light industrial units near A303 in Sparkford, Somerset. The units, proposed as ‘starter units’, aim to support small businesses in the area. The decision comes after more than two years of delays, with the approval meeting taking place on October 22.
The new business units will be situated between the former Haynes publishing site and a planned housing development. They will also benefit from a new access road off the A359, providing easy connection to the A303. While the creation of new jobs is a positive aspect of the development, there are concerns raised about the potential impact on the environment and local infrastructure.
Opponents of the plans highlighted issues such as flooding, traffic increase, and potential disruption to the village’s tranquility. They argue that existing empty buildings in the area could be repurposed instead. Despite these reservations, the committee voted in favor of the plans.
