The Bath and North East Somerset Council has rejected a proposal to convert a vacant warehouse in Keynsham into a karting track. TeamSport, a company with multiple karting centers across the UK, had applied to repurpose the former I.J.McGill Transport warehouse near Waitrose. The initiative aimed to create around 40 new jobs and boost the local economy. However, concerns over the reduction of employment space and potential disruption to neighbors led to the refusal of the plans.
Local councillor Andy Wait cited the possibility of noise pollution at late hours, negatively impacting residents' quality of life and health. Additionally, the council had previously suggested adjusting the operating hours, but TeamSport deemed these changes unviable for their business. Despite the council’s planning officers recommending approval, the majority of committee members voted to decline the proposal.
The decision has received mixed reactions, with committee members expressing disappointment over the company’s stance on adjusting the operating hours. While some acknowledged the appeal of the karting track, concerns were raised about its suitability for the location.
