Local authorities are proposing to lower the speed limit on a busy 1.2km stretch of the A4 Bath Road, between Saltford and Keynsham, from 40mph to 30mph. The initiative aims to address safety concerns arising from recent residential developments in the area.
Bath & North East Somerset Council (B&NES) is currently consulting the public on this change, while Saltford Parish Council is scheduled to discuss the proposals in an upcoming meeting.
According to B&NES Council, significant new housing projects along this corridor have transformed the road’s environment, warranting a reduction in speed. The council stated, “Following the technical approval review linked to permitted planning permission (20/02673/OUT), the highways department requested a decrease in the speed limit to support the construction of a new access road onto the A4."

This adjustment is intended to create safer conditions for motorists and pedestrians alike by aligning the speed limit with the increased traffic volume and roadside activity caused by ongoing development.
