Pigeon Infestation Sparks Health Concerns at St Dunstan’s House

Glastonbury Town Council has sounded the alarm over a growing pigeon problem at St Dunstan’s House, raising serious health concerns linked to bird droppings inside the building.

At a July council meeting, Councillor Jon Cousins highlighted an open window that was giving pigeons free access to the premises. He wryly noted that although the birds were “not wearing hard hats,” they might be “fouling whilst inside,” emphasizing the unexpected nature of the intrusion.

Councillor Terry Napper stressed the urgency of the situation, warning that pigeon droppings pose significant risks to health and wellbeing. “If they are dropping things, then you’ve got to have a specialist person to go in there because they are quite dangerous to health,” he said, urging swift inspection and remediation efforts.

Responding to these concerns, Council Clerk Conor Ogilvie-Davidson confirmed immediate steps were underway. “I’ve just requested the window get shut,” he explained, adding that the site manager was currently on holiday but that the managing director had been contacted to address the matter promptly.

With the council mobilizing to resolve the issue, residents hope the pigeon problem will soon be brought under control, ensuring the safety and cleanliness of St Dunstan’s House.
