As warmer weather and longer daylight hours inspire many Brits to get moving, physiotherapist and musculoskeletal specialist Clara Kervyn warns against dismissing aches and pains. Increased activity often leads to added strain, making it essential to listen to your body and take timely action.
Clara, working alongside Deep Heat and Deep Freeze, highlights the risks of ignoring discomfort: “With more people becoming active this season, it’s common to experience soreness ranging from tight hamstrings to painful knees. Yet according to research, 42% of Brits have suffered an exercise-related injury.”
The survey reveals that 67% of people endure muscle pain, primarily in the legs, knees, back, and feet, while 55% report strains or sprains. Runners are particularly vulnerable, with 41% of marathon or half-marathon participants reporting foot pain and 28% suffering lower leg discomfort during training.

Alarmingly, 54% of Brits tend to mask pain rather than treat it, which can allow minor issues to escalate into serious injuries. Clara emphasizes that caring for joints and muscles early on is vital to maintaining an active lifestyle.
“Proper equipment is fundamental. Wearing the right footwear—such as fitted running shoes for runners, tennis shoes for court players, or hard-soled trainers at the gym—can significantly reduce injury risk and enhance comfort,” Clara advises.
Warm-ups also play a crucial role, yet only 44% of people incorporate them before exercise. “Warming up raises blood flow and prepares muscles, reducing injury chances. Incorporating heat through products like Deep Heat Muscle Massage Roll-on Lotion helps relax muscles and boost repair via increased circulation,” Clara explains.
Rest is equally important for recovery. “Your body needs time to heal. Engaging in low-impact activities like yoga, stretching, or swimming during rest days can maintain movement without overloading muscles or joints,” she adds.
On injury recovery, Clara stresses the importance of patience. “Only 46% of people appreciate the necessity of recovery time, but healing is critical to prevent worsening injuries.”
Finally, Clara notes the benefits of cooling therapies: “While ice baths are popular, targeted cold treatments like Deep Freeze Muscle Rescue Cold Spray offer quick relief by reducing inflammation and blood flow to minor aches or flare-ups.”
By responding promptly and caring properly for your body, you can keep pain at bay and enjoy an active, injury-free season.
