Peter Andre’s Favourite Hotel Receives Two-Star Food Hygiene Rating

St Elizabeth’s House, a charming hotel in Plympton popular with singer Peter Andre, has been rated two stars in its latest food hygiene inspection, indicating that improvement is necessary.

The Food Standards Agency conducted the assessment in May, highlighting areas needing attention, particularly in cleanliness and the condition of the hotel’s facilities. The report emphasized the importance of proper layout, ventilation, handwashing facilities, and pest control to maintain good food hygiene standards.

While the hotel scored well on hygienic food handling and received a satisfactory mark for food safety management, overall it earned just two out of five stars. This rating reflects the need for urgent improvements to meet hygiene expectations.

Duncan Murray, the general manager of St Elizabeth’s House, explained that the hotel was purchased in January and already held a three-star rating under previous ownership. “The former owners were aware of required improvements but failed to implement them,” Murray said. “We only learned of these issues following the recent inspection. We have since appointed a new chef and are committed to raising our rating promptly, with plans for a re-inspection soon.”

Situated in a Grade II listed 17th-century Georgian country house on 5.5 acres near Plymouth, St Elizabeth’s House is recognized as one of Devon’s premier boutique hotels. The property has attracted notable visitors, including Peter Andre, who reportedly enjoyed his stay so much that he returned with his family.
