Peter Andre has recently spoken candidly about a significant family choice he and his wife Emily have made following her health struggles during childbirth.
Peter’s journey into fatherhood began nearly two decades ago with Katie Price, his then-partner and fellow contestant on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Together, they had two children: Junior and Princess. Although their relationship ended in 2009, Peter’s family life continued to evolve in meaningful ways.
His current love story began in an unexpected way—Peter met Emily MacDonagh after she was connected to his medical care. In 2010, Emily’s father, a urologist, treated Peter for kidney stones, sparking the beginning of a relationship between Peter and Emily. They officially became a couple in 2012, and two years later welcomed their first child, Amelia. They later expanded their family with two more children, Theo and Arabella.

Reflecting on fatherhood and family during a recent appearance on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast, Peter revealed that after the birth of Arabella, the couple concluded that she would be their last child. The announcement came as a “bittersweet” moment, marked by gratitude for the family they have and the experiences they’ve shared.
Peter expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to raise children, especially considering those who face challenges with fertility: “It’s beautiful because you’ve experienced it, how lucky. When I think of people who can’t have children, and I’m thinking I’ve got to experience it that many times.”
The decision was influenced greatly by serious complications Emily experienced following Arabella’s birth. Peter shared: “Emily had a real complication with Belle which I’m sure she’ll tell you about, which people didn’t know about, and I don’t know if she’s ever talked about it, but the complications that happened after, that were very serious.” He described that time as “very scary” and affirmed that it solidified their choice to stop expanding their family.
Beyond the arrival of their youngest, Peter has worked hard to integrate his eldest children from his previous relationship into their family unit, highlighting the strong bond they have formed with Emily. In his memoir, Between Us, he reveals, “So, as our relationship blossomed, the kids only knew her as a friend. But, what a friend. Just as Emily and I had developed this incredible closeness, so the children were creating an amazing bond with her.”
When it came time to share the news of his engagement to Emily with Junior and Princess, Peter felt no apprehension: “When the time came, and I knew I was going to ask Emily to marry me, my kids had truly grown to love her, so I had no worries about sitting down with them and explaining ‘the situation.'”
Peter Andre’s openness offers a touching glimpse into the challenges and joys of blending families and making heartfelt decisions in the face of life’s unpredictability.
