Peter Andre Reflects on ‘Jafaican’ Role and Teases Sequel While Keeping Movie Props

Peter Andre has spoken candidly about his recent role in Fredi Nwaka’s film, Jafaican, where he played Gary Buckle, a character who fabricates a Jamaican identity for a complex scheme. Despite facing some backlash for the portrayal, Andre embraced the experience and even took some of the film’s props and costumes home as mementos.

In a light-hearted confession to OK! magazine, Andre revealed, “Yeah, I have kept some of the props from Jafaican and I’ve got some of the outfits which are quite hilarious.” While he admits these items are now part of his personal collection, he jokingly adds that he probably won’t be wearing them again anytime soon.

Yet, fans looking forward to more may be pleased: Peter hints a sequel is already in the works. “We have already set the film up for a sequel, but it’ll be in a different country and playing a different character. Gary Buckle will remain though, so I’ve got all of his clothes,” he shared.

Beyond the humor, Andre encourages audiences to look deeper into Jafaican. He points out that beneath the comedy lies a hidden message that many might overlook on a first viewing. “Fans of Jafaican might not realise there’s a hidden message within the film that they may miss initially,” he explained.

Peter clearly enjoyed bringing Gary Buckle to life, describing the character as “funny, warm, and a really silly crook, not very good at his job.” Reflecting on the character’s misadventures, especially his bungled heist in Jamaica, Andre commented, “When he went to Jamaica to try and pull off the heist, he was never going to be very good at that either.”

A central theme of the film, as Peter describes, is the lengths people will go to out of love. “That was the whole point of the film—what depth and lengths you would go to help the person that you love? In Gary’s case, that was his grandmother,” he shared.

Acknowledging the mixed reviews the film received, Andre stressed the importance of diverse opinions and urged viewers to watch the film before forming a judgment. “It is really important for people to have different opinions,” he said. “In regards to critics, I think it’s very easy to criticise something based on a trailer. I would say: ‘Go and watch the film first and you will see what the film is about.’ You will understand the context.”

Peter’s openness to criticism stems from his belief in creative freedom and audience engagement. He reflected, “I don’t think it’s right to expect everyone to like what you’re doing. In anything I’ve done, there have always been people saying: ‘Don’t do that, that’s not the right song to release, that’s not a good video clip.’”

With the sequel already hinted at and Andre’s heartfelt portrayal of Gary Buckle, fans have much to look forward to from the Jafaican universe.
