Peter Andre Opens Up About Anxiety and Bittersweet Moments Amid Mum’s Health Struggles

Peter Andre has candidly revealed the complex emotions he faces while visiting his mother in Australia, who is battling both Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. The 52-year-old singer, famed for his hit song “Mysterious Girl,” recently traveled Down Under for work and used the opportunity to spend precious time with his parents.

Despite the joy of reuniting with his family, Peter admits the experience stirs deep anxiety, especially when leaving his children behind in the UK. He is a devoted father to five children—Junior and Princess with his ex-wife Katie Price, and Amelia, Theo, and Arabella with his wife Emily MacDonagh.

In a heartfelt column for OK! magazine, Peter described the emotional challenges of having loved ones spread across continents. “It’s always so hard leaving the children when I travel. I get quite anxious before I leave,” he wrote. “But I also feel anxious because I’m going to see my mum for a very limited amount of time in Australia. I’ve seen Mum and Dad every day in between work, so it’s bittersweet.”

Peter expressed optimism despite the difficulty: “I’m so happy to see them, but also happy that I’ll get to go back and be with the children.”

Earlier this year, Peter and his brother Michael traveled to Australia to spend meaningful time with their parents, Thea and Savvas. In 2023, Peter shared the heartbreaking news that his 88-year-old mother was diagnosed with both Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Their enduring love was celebrated last year when Peter honored his parents’ 69th wedding anniversary with a touching tribute.

Reflecting on the trip, Peter wrote, “Being with my mum and dad in Australia was incredible, but understandably also very emotional. I went with my brother, Michael, and we got to spend quality time with my sister as well. The hardest bit for me is leaving them. Both Mum and Dad are on the decline, unfortunately, especially my mum.”

He closed his column with gratitude for the support received: “Every moment was incredible. Thank you to everyone for all the lovely messages I received when I was there. Even though I know it’s part of life, I can assure you it doesn’t make it any easier to deal with.”
