Person Hospitalized After Being Trapped in Car Near Glastonbury

A person was taken to hospital this morning (October 8) after becoming trapped inside a vehicle following a crash near Glastonbury. The incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. on the A361, just outside Pilton.

According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, the westbound lane of the A361 was blocked, causing slow traffic between Parson’s Batch and Stickleball Lane.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called to the scene where the occupant was trapped in the car. Firefighters used Edraulic cutting equipment to safely free the individual. Additional equipment, including VStrut stabilizers and environmental pads, was deployed to stabilize the vehicle and control leaking fuel.

Fire crews from Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury arrived promptly and remained at the scene until around 8:10 a.m., handing over the patient to the South Western Ambulance Service.

A spokesperson from SWASFT reported arriving at the scene shortly after the call at 6:06 a.m. One patient was transported by land ambulance to Yeovil District Hospital.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed their attendance, noting that the injured person’s condition was not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. The road was closed until approximately 8:40 a.m. for vehicle recovery, with normal traffic flow restored by 9 a.m.
