A person tragically lost their life on the train tracks near Bath, resulting in widespread disruption to train services over the weekend. The incident occurred early on the morning of Saturday, August 9, at approximately 6:15 a.m. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene near Freshford railway station, located between Bath Spa and Westbury.
British Transport Police confirmed that officers were dispatched following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Despite the prompt arrival of paramedics, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) also responded urgently, deploying a double-crewed land ambulance, two operations officers, and a hazardous area response team to assist at the location.

The incident led to the closure of all railway lines between Bath Spa and Westbury until around 10 a.m. on Saturday. During this period, passengers were provided with taxi services to reach affected destinations, including Freshford, Avoncliff, and Bradford-on-Avon, minimizing the impact of the disruption. Normal train services resumed later that morning.
