Person dies on Bruton train tracks, causing railway line closure

A tragic incident at Bruton railway station in Somerset has resulted in the death of a person on the train tracks, prompting the closure of the railway line between Castle Cary and Westbury.

British Transport Police were alerted to the scene at around 12:35 pm on Tuesday, March 10. Paramedics also attended, but unfortunately, the individual was pronounced dead at the site.

Authorities have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner to investigate the circumstances further.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers responded promptly to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Bruton railway station. Despite the efforts of emergency services, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”

Meanwhile, National Rail confirmed that all lines between Castle Cary and Westbury are closed to allow emergency services to carry out their work safely. Train services have been cancelled or revised, with some delays of up to 20 minutes expected on routes between Salisbury and Westbury.

Travelers are strongly advised to check the status of their journeys before heading to the station as disruption is expected to continue until around 4:00 pm.
