A tragic incident occurred today at Bruton railway station in Somerset, where a person was found dead on the tracks. The railway line between Castle Cary and Westbury has been closed since early afternoon as emergency services attend the scene.
British Transport Police were alerted to a casualty on the tracks at approximately 12:35 pm on Tuesday, March 10. Paramedics also responded but sadly confirmed the individual’s death at the scene.
Officials have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner to review.

A spokesperson from British Transport Police said, “Officers responded promptly to reports of a casualty at Bruton station. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the person was pronounced dead onsite. Investigations indicate no suspicious circumstances, and the coroner will now handle the case.”
Due to this incident, National Rail has closed all lines between Castle Cary and Westbury to allow emergency teams to work safely. Train services in the area are being cancelled or revised, with delays of up to 20 minutes expected between Salisbury and Westbury. Disruptions are likely to continue until 4:00 pm.
