Person Dies After Being Hit by Train in Somerset

A tragic incident occurred today at Worle railway station in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, when a person was struck and killed by a train. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 2pm on Friday, October 17. Despite the quick response from British Transport Police and paramedics, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

All railway lines between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare are currently blocked, causing significant disruption. Train services from Penzance, Plymouth, Exeter, and Gloucester are experiencing delays and cancellations. Passengers are advised that disruptions may continue until 6pm as emergency services manage the situation.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police stated: “Officers were called at around 2pm today (17 October) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Worle railway station. Officers responded with paramedics; however, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”

Great Western Railway has advised travelers to expect delays of at least 90 minutes, with some services cancelled due to the incident.
