Shepton Mallet Carnival came to a temporary halt on Wednesday evening after a performer fell from one of the procession carts. The incident, reported at approximately 8:40 pm, prompted immediate intervention from both police and ambulance crews, who navigated through spectators to reach the injured individual.
The parade had commenced about an hour earlier from Cannard’s Grave Road when the accident occurred. Details about which specific cart was involved or the exact location along the route remain unclear.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, the injured carnival participant received first aid from officers and a St John’s Ambulance team before being transported to the hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening or life-altering.

Witnesses noted that the procession was paused for nearly an hour. During the delay, entertainment continued with the Newmarket Carnival Club’s Ghost Chickens, positioned at the front of the parade, playing music to keep the crowd engaged.
The procession resumed around 9:30 pm. Police expressed gratitude to the public and carnival participants for their understanding and patience while emergency care was administered.
