A bus crash on the A396 near Wheddon Cross in Somerset has left several passengers trapped this afternoon, Thursday, July 17. The incident occurred when the bus veered off the road near the junction with Ashwell Lane and Steart Lane, close to Minehead.
Emergency responders including Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, ambulance crews, and Avon and Somerset Police quickly arrived at the scene. Most passengers have been safely evacuated, but rescue teams continue working diligently to free those still trapped inside the vehicle.
At this stage, details regarding the number and severity of injuries remain unclear. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area between Wheddon Cross and Dunster to allow emergency services unobstructed access.

Avon and Somerset Police stated: “We received reports around 3pm of a bus leaving the road on Cutcombe Hill on the A396. Emergency services are actively managing the incident and undertaking rescue operations. We ask members of the public to steer clear of the area while we work.”
South Western Ambulance Service also advised travelers to find alternative routes, emphasizing the seriousness of the collision and the ongoing emergency response efforts.
