Pearl Lowe names Somerset’s The High Pavement as her favourite restaurant in the world

Pearl Lowe, acclaimed fashion and interiors designer and former lead singer of 90s Britpop band Powder, has revealed that her favourite restaurant in the world is nestled in Somerset. The High Pavement, located in Frome’s charming St Catherine’s Quarter, offers some of the most delicious tapas you can find — but guests must book early due to its limited opening days.

Lowe and her husband, Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey, divide their time between their Somerset home and a Notting Hill flat in London. Though the couple recently sold their expansive 11-bedroom Somerset residence to downsize, Pearl confirmed their plans to make Frome their permanent home, a place she and their children adore.

Speaking to The Times, Pearl said, “The High Pavement is a little front room open only on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, so advance booking is essential. The tapas there is simply the most delicious you will ever eat.”

Pearl is also a fan of Frome’s monthly market held on the first Sunday from March to December, valued for its exceptional food, antiques, and vibrant atmosphere. When it comes to accommodation, she praises Somerset’s finest hotels, highlighting the beautifully designed Number One Bruton and recalling her own wedding at Babington House in a gothic-style winter ceremony in 2008.

The High Pavement’s menu draws inspiration from the robust and flavoursome cuisines of Spain, North Africa, and the Middle East, featuring dishes such as deep-fried goat’s cheese with date syrup, spiced venison, hot grilled chorizo, Turkish spiced chicken, and pistachio, honey, and orange blossom ice cream.

In a recent interview with Hello! Magazine, Pearl opened up about her interiors philosophy in their Notting Hill flat. She emphasizes trusting her instincts over trends, favoring vintage finds, soft fabrics, eclectic wallpapers, and personal mementos to create spaces full of history and character. “Comfort always comes first, then character follows,” she explained, “Nothing matches, everything has history, and that’s where the magic happens.”

On Christmas traditions, Pearl shared that the family enjoys spending the holiday gathered around a big roaring fire, surrounded by loved ones, creating warm and lasting memories in their beloved homes.
